Bohlin is a beautiful, friendly, easy going, engaging 16.2 hh, 5 year old Clydesdale/Thoroughbred cross who through injury has developed an unstable pelvis. He needs a new home with a flat pasture more appropriate to his condition.
What he can do: Bohlin is proficient in Level 2 Parelli. He comes to a clap, and will back, turn on the forehands, haunches and side pass on hand signals. He is curious and loves to learn new things. He is gentle around children. He picks up his feet on voice command.
What he cannot do: due to his pelvic instability Bohlin can not be ridden. He is predisposed to tripping/falling and it would be a danger to both him and his rider. He has difficulty with areas that are not flat.
Background: Bohlin came to us as a 2 year old from the flats of Sasckawean, Canada. Soon after, while playing in the pasture, Bohlin fell fracturing his tuber coxae. After 4 months on stall rest and another 4 months of hand walking, he was cleared by the vet to be started. However, once started he showed a predisposition to tripping, especially under saddle. So we turned him out in the hills with a herd of horses for 3 month expecting that the just needed to learn how to maneuver up and down hills. Subsequently he came back home only to fall again in December reinjuring his pelvis. After 8 months of rest and rehabilitation he was further evaluated at Alamo Pintado Equine Hospital with a thermal radiograph which identified the extent of his instability. It was then advised that he be retired. Eight days later he fell again in the pasture. It was advised that he be euthanized. We are hoping to find an alternative that would allow him to be retired to home that can provide him with a flat pasture in the hope that this will allow him to live out a beautiful life that he so deserves. I know it is a long shot but I have to at least try.
Thank you,
Mary Reichel
